One of the “rewards” for the USA team catching the public’s attention during World Cup 2010 is that Landon Donovan will now be invited onto multiple daytime TV chat shows, which will (theoretically) provide extra exposure for soccer in America. Yesterday Donovan was on Live with Regis and Kelly, where he came face to face with Regis Philbin.
I don’t know much about Regis, and I’m not sure I want to, but for some reason I can tell by looking at him that he is not a soccer fan. Worse, he didn’t seem interested in doing any research to get even the basics right. Watch in horror as Regis advances the US to “Round number 16″ (which I would guess means winning World Cup 2010 and also 2014 too) asks Donovan about playing for other national teams, and makes himself the king of lazy interviews by asking if Donovan had always wanted to play in a World Cup. Credit to Donovan for his patience, and to Regis’ co-host Kelly Ripa, who seems like Grant Wahl by comparison, asking about previous World Cups and the merits of video replay. Seems she has a mean right foot too.
