Argentina Coach Diego Maradona Was Confident Martin Palermo Would Score Against Greece

Diego had faith in San Martin.

Following Martin Palermo’s goal for Argentina against Greece last night, coach Diego Maradona

“I told Palermo, ‘get out there and finish the game off for me’", Maradona told a press conference.

The 36-year-old Palermo, who revealed his delight with the goal last night, eclipsed Maradona’s own record as the oldest Argentine to score in a World Cup finals.

"What happened with Martin is crazy,” continued El Diego. “I was thinking about Pipita with my staff members, well, in fact they were thinking of sending Higuain on to the pitch but I said, ‘no, give me Martin.”’

“I think all of our substitutions paid off,” he continued.

“With [Angel] di Maria coming on we improved. I'm not surprised at all by Javier Pastore. He doesn't show anyone too much respect. He looks like he has played in four or five World Cups.”
revealed the coaching staff were considering introducing Real Madrid striker Gonzalo 'Pipita' Higuain before he stepped in and went for 'San Martin'.
