Arjen Robben is fit enough to play in Netherlands' opening World Cup match against Denmark.

Dutch coach Bert van Marwijk has stated that Robben will not be considered for the game in Johannesburg, but physio Dick van Toorn believes he would be able to take part on Monday.

"I think that he can play,'' van Toorn told German newspaper TZ. "If they do not play him for tactical reasons, okay, but you cannot say he would not be fit."

The Bayern Munich star did not head to South Africa with the rest of the Dutch squad, instead he remained behind to receive treatment on his hamstring injury.

Van Toorn also revealed that he and van Marwijk have different views on whether or not the 26-year-old will be able to feature against Denmark.

"He has a different opinion than I do," he said. "He thinks that a player should not play in pain, because he has missed a few training sessions. But I say 'fit is fit', if Arjen feels no more pain, then he is fit. And then he must play.''

After Monday's match, Netherlands will also face Cameroon and Japan in Group E.
